It was a surprise moment: a month ago, suddenly we got a kitten. We didn't intend to have a cat before. I'm not really into cats. But this kitten made my heart melt. You can read the chronology in my previous posts here (A Kitten Found) and here (The Kitten That Makes Me Melt).
When he was rescued, Rainy was around 3-4 weeks old. At first we thought Rainy is female, but turns out Rainy is male. Now Rainy has been living with us for a month. He is about 2 months old and has gone through a lot of changes. We didn't expect it to develop so fast. Amazing.
Not only Rainy who has experienced a change, we have experienced it too, but not physically. This past month we learned to be good pawrent. Our routines and priorities have changed. It's troublesome, but it's surprisingly fun.
Some of the changes are:
Our morning routine
Every early morning now, after the dawn prayer around 5 o'clock, me or my husband fed Rainy and cleaned the litter box.
However, every time we were in his room cleaning the litter box, Rainy was so excited: running around, playing with us, holding the scoop, going up and down the litter box, and doing other things to distract us so we couldn't do what we had to do.
That's why we often work together, my husband cleans the litter box, I play with Rainy so he won't disturb my husband.
We once locked him in a cage during the litter box cleaning process. But he protested by meowing loudly and repeatedly. So, we had to let him go again.
If the sand is clean, dry, and fresh, he will sit and relax on the sand while cleaning his body. Sometimes he also randomly scavenges the sand even though he doesn't want to poop or pee.
Browser & online shopping history
"Is package for me, mommy?"
My browser history is now filled with articles on how to care for kittens, kitten food recommendations, what is good cat litter, etc.
Meanwhile, my online shopping history is now dominated by cat foods, cat litters, cat supplies, and so on.
Scars... Scars everywhere...
Many say the orange cat is the strongest race and behaves barbarically. Well, it turned out to be true! From the beginning, whenever we pet him, Rainy would always turn around and try to scratch or bite our hands. In his first two days at home, Rainy had dared to climb up his box, run around the living room, explore all the places under the tables and chairs.
Every day his movements are getting more nimble, fast, and agile. The claws and bites are getting more brutal, sometimes even jumping to pounce on our legs. Even though he was being caressed or playing with us. My husband said: “He was just playing around. It's his love language."
As a result, we got several scratches on the hands and feet. But my husband was the one who has more scars than me.

There is something interesting. Long before Rainy came to our lives, whenever my husband said he wanted to have a cat, I always answered: “No. Better we have a tiger."
There you go. I got a kitten that looks and acts like a cub! Be careful of what you say!
In addition to the three things above, there are a few more things that have changed. Our house, which was once quiet because it was just the two of us, was now a bit crowded with Rainy. He meowed when he was hungry or wanted to play with us. And we often talk to him like talking to a child.
And then our pillow talk changed too. Sometimes before going to bed we talk about what Rainy did today. Just like talking about the development of our baby :D
And, what changed the most was my preference for cats. My husband said he was amazed that I can be a cat lover because of Rainy. In fact, there are times when I talk to Rainy and he seems to understand what I'm saying: he did what I say.
Magic huh?
So it's true. Kittens do have their own way of making people fall in love with them and willing to do anything for them. It will grow on us. 😁
Thanks for dropping by. Thank you also for the support. Have a nice day!
