Hey Everyone,
I hope you are enjoying good health. I am just starting with a new story. And here's hoping to conclude it without dragging it too much.
Blind Date - Episode 1 (The Wait)
“I don't think it's a good idea.” I tried convincing my aunt for probably the thousandth time.
“Whether it's a good idea or not is not up for questioning now. Just be there whenever she shows up. Don't repeat what happened with the previous alliance.” she replied and hung up the phone. Not bothered to hear my side of the story or defense for why I decided to walk out on my previous date.
They call it a date but in reality, it is matchmaking. I am supposed to know and understand a girl in one meeting and decide on my fate. Being a software engineer, 32, and unmarried is not a good combination. The general standards are you must have a standing order to go on-site or at least be married and have an on-site order pending. And when you have none of that, people will start spreading rumors just to satisfy their need to have an answer for why I am happy. Even my aunt asked me if I am Gay. And my aunt was the first one to start such a rumor by asking my friends. I mean what nonsense, how can one decide to marry a person the moment they met? Love, at first sight, is something overrated and exaggerated. One may like the person when you first meet, but they never will be like, “oh my god, she or he is the one”. It usually takes time to build the trust or the level of confidence that marriage requires.
And I am not impressed with this one, she is already late by 45mins. I am not sure if this is a correct match for me. I like being on time and am also a big fan of not making others wait. Let's just hope that she is worth the wait.
I ordered coffee just so nobody thinks of me as a person who goes to a restaurant and orders just once. Which made me wonder about how much our action is commanded by society and how much we have lost control of our own actions. I am a man who is free to do whatever he wants and yet here I am sitting in a restaurant I don't like, ordering a coffee I don’t need, waiting for someone I don’t know.
I decided to let my eyes take a look around the place Because I knew If I took out my mobile it will be for making a call to my Aunt telling her to back off and don’t help. Ever. Secondly, even though I am very much capable of sitting still and enjoy do nothing. But, this is not the place and time for such mindful activity. If anything the place started giving me negative vibes.
Before I could finish my coffee, She pulled the chair out and sat opposite me. Breathless. Sweating. Grabbed the sealed bottle of water. Start sipping. All this and still no words.
“Sorry yaar. Late ho gayi mein. Oh… Yaar meri friend Priti ka ek call aaya tha. And I was stuck helping her out” (Eng Translation. - Sorry dude, I was late. My friend Priti called. And I was stuck helping her out.
“Coffee?” I offered her coffee since the restaurant had one of the best coffee I ever tasted.
“Nahi, Mein coffee nahi peeti” (Eng Translation. - No, I am not a coffee person.) She replied. Another red flag.
No sense of appointment. Not a coffee person. What kind of Match is this Aunty?
“Chai?” I asked if she would have a chai.
“Nahi, Wo bhi nahi peeti. Sehat ke liye aachi nahi hoti.”(Eng Translation. - No, Tea also is not my choice of drink)
Great!!! she doesn't like Tea.
Well, this is going to be a short date.
