Hello there! how is everyone? :)
Yesterday we made gingerbread, different (healthier) recipe than this one I'm posting right now. I didnt take any photos but I enjoyed it so much. Making biscuits, crackers or gingerbread it's one of our favorite things we do together when it comes to practical learning activities. That's why it came to me the idea to show you how we do this together.
The photos are made 2 month ago, a couple of days before Christmas. Caleb had almost 2 years. He loves to play with the dough....but lets be serious.....do you know any kid who doesn't?
Besides playing, he took an active part in helping me to prepare the dough (he transffered some ingredients to the bowl), he used the gingerbread forms, he placed them in the tray and at the end, he transferred them in the cookie container!
I could see that he liked to participate a lot! ❤️❤️
Teaching Practical Life Skills
First, all children under the age of 6 are in a "hands-on" learning phase; they do more learning through their hands than with their eyes. You can call it also sensorial learning. Toddlers and preschoolers need to touch and move things, explore the world using their hands.
This activity teaches them practical life skills, which is very important.
In case you wonder what are those, “practical skills” means skills performed by hand (as in tying a knot) or with human intervention using equipment, tools or technology requiring guidance, force or movement.
For example: transfer water from one pot to another, drinking water, brushing teeth, cooking, eating, writting, cleaning up, opening conteiners, getting dressed, carrying things, etc.
Bassically, its all things we do day by day and not thinking of it.
Include your child in day by day activitites
Also, it's very important to involve your child in day by day activitites like cooking, cleaning up, washing, gardening, etc. You will grow their feeling of responsability.
Tiny humans want to be adults, thats why they wanna make the things we do. When you include him in some of your chores and made them happen together, your child will learn more than practical skills.
This is quality time ❤️
Playing, reading, fooling around, learning, cooking, cleaning up, watching a movie, outdoor walkings, resolve chores with our little ones is PRETIOUS. Our children needs us! They need our love, our energy, our focus and our time first of all things. They need our presence more than anything! They need us to be active in their life.
Even if its taking you a little more time to make these cookies together with your child, it doesnt matter. You earned so much! You both did! We both did, me and my baby boy!
And now ❤️ .......I guess you all waited for it 😁 😁 😁
Recipe for No Sugar Gingerbread ❤️
They are extremely tasty and fluffy. We gave up on icing because sugar is not very much on the menu, especially for the little one. 😁
Here it is:
- Flour 320g,
- Butter 100g
- Honey 200g
- one egg
- one teaspoon baking soda
- a pinch of salt
- two tablespoons seasoning for gingerbread (cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger powder),
- vanilla essence
Instructions:
- Prepare the ingredients.
- Preheat oven to 170° C
- Melt the butter and mix with the honey.
- In a bowl, put flour, egg and spices. Then pour the butter and honey.
- You can knead by hand or with a kneader. It does not require much hassle, the gingerbread dough with honey is ready quickly and is easy to knead. You need to make sure that the dough is smooth. Ready!!!
- Take the gingerbread dough and place it in a transparent foil. If you want to bake the cakes on the same day, leave the dough in the fridge for at least an hour. It would be advisable for the dough to stay cold for a few good hours (overnight).
- Remove the dough from the fridge and leave it for 30 minutes to heat a little, at room temperature. You can't work with it cold.
- Spread the dough on a floured board so that it has a thickness of 5-6 mm.
- With one form (or more) portion the dough and place it on a baking sheet in the pan. They grow a little when baked, so a distance must be left between them.
- Bake it for 8-9 minutes at 170 ° C.
What activities do you enjoy making together with you toddler, preschoolers, teens or let's say.....KIDS? What do you love doing with your child? :x:x
