Eight Moons on HIVE: A Reflection on Growth, Doubt, and What Comes Next

As I approach my eighth anniversary—or eight moons, as the community likes to call it—on the HIVE blockchain, I’ve found myself looking back at the journey that brought me here. It’s hard to believe that nearly a decade has passed since the day I stumbled upon this ecosystem.

I still remember it clearly:

I was on vacation, browsing online and looking for new ways to diversify into crypto. I wasn’t really searching for a community—but I found one. Or rather, it found me.

What started as curiosity quickly became a full dive into a world of social blockchain mechanics, tokenized communities, and decentralized publishing. It wasn’t just an investment; it became a habit, a hobby, and in many ways, a form of personal development.

Finding a Voice Through the Blockchain

Over time, posting on HIVE helped me become a better communicator.

Writing about fitness, gaming, Splinterlands, personal finance, and day-to-day reflections gave me a space to stretch my voice in a way nothing else had.

It became part of my routine.

Part of my growth.

Part of my identity.

And for years, it felt like I was contributing to a living, evolving ecosystem.

The Hard Fork: A Turning Point

But then came the hard fork—one of the most dramatic and divisive moments in the platform’s history. While HIVE emerged stronger in many ways, the experience changed how I viewed the ecosystem’s long-term viability.

It made me rethink the value I was adding, the return on my time, and the potential of the blockchain itself. I found myself gradually pulling back, questioning not only the platform’s direction but also my role within it.

I eventually powered down much of my stake.

Not because I didn’t care—but because I wasn’t sure where the ecosystem was truly heading.

The Communities That Kept Me Here

Even during my break, I couldn’t fully walk away.

A few communities kept drawing me back:

• Hive account@actifit, which helped me stay accountable for health and daily movement
• Hive account@splinterlands, which remains my primary anchor to HIVE
• And the occasional personal post, when inspiration struck

These pockets of activity reminded me why I joined in the first place: the small, genuine connections and the satisfaction of shaping content in a decentralized space.

Doubt… and Habit

Even now, I find myself juggling two conflicting feelings:

• Doubt about the long-term value the ecosystem can realistically create
• Habit pulling me back to write, share, and contribute

I’ve built consistency to the point where creating content feels natural—but lately, it has started to feel more like a chore than a hobby. That shift is subtle but important. It suggests that something in my relationship with HIVE has changed.

And it’s something I need to reflect on as the holiday season approaches.

What Comes Next?

Eight years is a long time. It represents resilience, curiosity, evolution—and in many ways, loyalty. But it’s also long enough to understand when it’s time to reevaluate.

I don’t see myself stopping entirely. Content creation has become part of who I am. But the question is where, how, and for what purpose I want to continue.

Maybe I’ll remain on HIVE but more selectively.

Maybe I’ll shift my writing to fewer communities.

Maybe I’ll lean more heavily on Splinterlands and let the rest fade.

Or perhaps I’ll rediscover a spark for the broader ecosystem.

For now, I’m simply acknowledging the crossroads.

Eight moons in, I’m grateful for how this journey shaped me—and I’m also ready to reflect deeply on what the next eight might look like.
