In this follow up from my previous Hive Coinbase Challenge post outlining the first section of Coinbase Digital Asset Framework including mission, values, and open financial system.
In today's post we will get a peak into the second section of the framework: Technology (Security & Code, Team, Governance, Scalability)
The subsections for this part of the framework go deeper than the first section and the listing proposal will need to reflect the current state of the chain.
Step 1: Use The Coinbase Asset Framework as a Lens to View the Hive Blockchain
The Coinbase Listing Application will require us to answer all of these questions, based on the sections of their asset framework as they relate to our blockchain.
This post is specifically for section 2 of the framework that discusses the technology of the platform. So, in order to write out that section of the proposal for Hive we need to look at what they are looking for us to outline about our chain through their framework
Coinbase Digital Asset Framework Section 2.0: Technology
2.1 Security & Code
Assessment of engineering and product quality - Source Code, Prototype, Security & Code
2.2 Team
Assessment of short-term operating expectations and decision making including Founders and Leadership, Engineering, Business & Operations, and Specialized Knowledge and Key People.
2.3 Governance
Assessment of long-term operating expectations and decision making including Consensus Process, Future Development Funding, and White Paper (These are the whitepapers we are currently using, what other sites and documents should we include?)
Steem White Paper
Steem Blue Paper
2.4 Scalability
Assessment of a network's potential barriers to scaling and ability to grow and handle user adoption. Roadmap, Network Operating Costs, Practical Applications, and Type of Blockchain
Step 2: Define Hive's Technology using the Framework
Use the framework to create an outline of the current state of the Hive chain. Look specifically at the questions for each sub (i.e. Security, Team, Governance) and sub-sub (i.e. Source Code, Founders, White Paper, Roadmap) section and answer them in terms of our chain. Here is an adapted set of questions from the framework, use it to think about our blockchain.
- Explain the source code for the Hive chain. Does it undergo rigorous peer review? Does it have testing separate from the development team?
- Are the founders and leaders able to articulate a vision, strategy, and use cases to help drive development? Demonstrate the track record of success and/or experience with the technology.
- What is the process to propose and implement code updates? What is the plan for future development?
- What is the roadmap for the chain going forward? What are the barriers for scaling the network?
Step 3: Take Some Action

Cheers all and have a great day!!
Also, if you want to talk about this proposal with me live on air, I produce a show called "The Honeypot" - An open space live broadcast for the broader Hive community. Seen on at Vimm.TV
