Saturday morning I was up and going at 5AM. I had to clean up the kitchen disaster, do chores, eat breakfast, and be ready for 8AM as my friend was taking me to the estate sale. It was raining so I brought my umbrella. But as always, it stopped and I never used it.
Full car!
The first estate sale was a washout. The only thing I found was the box. My friend got a few things, but the guy putting on this type of estate sale has only left the junk by and large. So I won’t be going to any more he posts as this is the second time this has happened.
But on the way to it, I’d seen 2 signs for 2 more estate sales. That’s pretty unusual, usually you only find one a month or less in a season. So we headed out for the second one.
That was another really excellent one, similar to the one I’d been to on my road a couple weeks ago. That red Pyrex bowl is an antique at this point. But I got it because I use that size a lot.
Most of this I found in the house. The Big Red book is written and illustrated by C. W. Anderson. I’ve always loved his work since a child and collect any I find. That was from the 3rd estate sale along with the little wreath for the front porch.
The 2 shirts were also from the 3rd sale, the blanket from the second.
I have often needed a file for one thing or another at the house and they are all kept at the barn. The tools and everything else at the second sale were quality and well taken care of. I got the 2 sets of files for $10.
I found these hose manifolds and 2 of the multi-spray handles for hoses for $7. The clock is perfect for the dining room.
I loved this enamelware pan, even if it has a chip. I will use the candles for luminaria at Christmas, if I ever get them finished. And the household goods and lamp oil will all get used.
I use baking soda for cleaning bathrooms so while 24# seems like a lot, it will keep and get used. And I always pick up paper when I find it.
I couldn’t believe I found this jacquard woven blanket at the second sale. These things are very expensive.
I found this blouse in my size at the 3rd sale for $1.
Many of our tools went missing during construction, so I’ve been trying to replace them from tag sales. I got the pry bar for $10 and the hardware cloth at the second sale.
I also got this double shepherd’s hook at the second sale.
All these sales were in the same town and there is a diner there my friend and I have wanted to try. They do organic local food but are only open from 7AM – 1PM and we never managed to get there on time. But this time we did!
We had an excellent meal and a very helpful waitress. It’s definitely a place to return to when we are out this way, during their hours.
We stopped at the food co-op on the way home so I could get the missing ingredients for the last batch of beef stock.
That was the first thing I did once the car was unloaded, get the stock going. I had thought we’d be back sooner than 2:15PM. I finally had it going by 4PM.
My brother was home early and decided to try to move the bags of wood with the tractor. I had to keep stopping work on the stock to help him. We quickly discovered the front tires were a bit low, as with all the weight on the front, the tire started to roll the bead.
So he stopped and put more air in them and they we just barely alright. So he got the first bag up to the shed.
He’d been working off and on all week making the parts for a trellis for the porch. He went out to put it up and I had to help with that. I had gotten the 4 tent pegs he needed for the bottom board at the second estate sale and it went up really nicely. I hope the sweet pea flowers I plan to plant during the coming week like it.
I was really exhausted by the time it was all done. I just ate supper, did chores, got the stove going and went to bed.
On Sunday my helper friend was coming to help me inventory amendments and make up 3 batches. My general helper was coming also and would be prepping the Small garden for planting peas. I ought to be good and wiped out by the time it’s all done.
