Pantry just after being set-up the first time in 2021
Friday was another day of pouring down rain and cold. It was also a crash day after 2 days of working outside for too long. My helper friend arrived at 8AM and got some chores done. The big project for the day was cleaning the fridge.
He brought up 2 coolers from the cellar and I emptied the fridge into them. Then I crashed just before 9AM so he was left to finish the job.
I got the wood stove going again around 11AM as it was only 62F inside.
I had one whole shelf in the pantry devoted to herbs for the chickens. They were up to 3 years old and I’d hung onto them in hopes of having a flock this year. But it was time to dump them and start over, in case there might be any chance next year of having one. There were about 40+ jars of all different kinds of dehydrated herbs, flowers, and forbs. It would all go to compost.
I’d offered them to a few people but they never actually took them, so out they went. They weren’t suitable for human use, having dirt and bugs in them.
I used the middle shelf where they had been to store my brothers staples and I kept the dried roses, calendula, and herbs for the cedar closet like wormwood and tansy.
My helper friend went out and got some tomatoes and peppers to take home. He picked all the ripe paprikas while he was at it. I will have to get them into the dehydrator over the weekend.
I spent most of the day resting and watching videos.
On Saturday my general helper is coming and we are going to a huge book sale at the local Vocational school. I’m hoping to come home with lots of books.
