On Sunday morning I was up at 7AM and started trying to get the stoves up to temperature. I’d been up in the night at 1AM doing this also. I finally got my post up mid morning.
My brother got up around 9:30AM and helped me clean up the kitchen.
The snowflakes started appearing precisely at 9AM when predicted. It didn’t take long for it to get bad.
I’d decided to make baked butter beans and add a bit of the sausage my older brother had given me for Christmas. I found the recipe, but the brainfog kicked in and even though my brother’s regular baked beans recipe was on the flip side, and the ingredients called for sweeteners, I did not connect the fact I’d made them before as baked beans. I’d also not noted the quantity of beans to be used on the notes side, so I guessed it was 2 cups and put that in.
Sigh…it was supposed to be a pound which my brother mentioned after I’d started them. Then I forgot to get a photo of the finished pot. Oh well… they were pretty spicy with double the seasonings, but still good.
I’d filled the feeders Saturday night as I knew the birds would be desperate and empty them fast.
Tom had taken the Gator to his house a few days back and arrived late morning with the trailer, to get it out of his small yard so he could plow.
My brother went out later in the day to plow. It was well after noontime before I managed to get started on the remaining Christmas lights. I had them repaired, packed up, and put the boxes in the attic stairwell to go up by 2PM.
I’d mostly spent the day feeding stoves every hour to try to get the house up to temp. It was around noon time when I finally succeeded. I was able to maintain the temp throughout the rest of the day until bedtime.
I went out at 4PM just as the second thump arrived and cleared the steps and a couple walkways with the shovel. Fortunately with it so cold, the snow is light and fluffy.
But half an hour later you couldn’t tell I’d done anything. I fed the birds again while I was out there.
I stayed up until 10PM to make sure the stoves were good. I watched 800 Words in between fires, shoveling, and supper. So far, no power outage here…knock wood…
On Monday the storm continues until around 5PM. I’ll have to clean out steps later in the day. I also need to do laundry, clean the kitchen, make a second batch of beans to use them up, start the bills/budget, and tend stoves every hour or so.
