Sorry about the poor photo, old shaky hands at work. My brother saw 2 bluebirds out by the Big garden where their house is. They hung around long enough for me to get the camera, but… I managed this one before they both flew away.
After breakfast we were going to empty the trash shed and go to the dump. It took me about 1½ hours, as I had to sort the recycle and breakdown boxes. I also had several boxes of old florescent light bulbs to go.
Well, it seems the state of Taxachusetts has set a rate of $1 a foot for each bulb. Yup, $4 a bulb and I must have about 50. So they came back home with me. I have no idea how to get rid of them now.
It had been cold out there at 8:30AM and I got too tired and cold doing the shed. I ended up in bed for a 2 hour nap.
When my brother got home, he wanted to make a double batch of parsnip chowder. So we set about that. He got 4 of the biggest parsnips from the root cellar, this is 3 of the crowns.
I collected ingredients and then set about frying the herb bacon.
About a third of the way through doing that, I faded again and had to sit down. So my brother mostly made the meal.
This is 3 of the parsnips, an onion, and the 6 cups of chicken stock. This was the last of the chicken stock I had left. We will have to start making small batches from carcasses now.
He wanted to go light on the parsley but I put the full amount in. We joked it was for green for St. Patrick’s day.
I’d also used celery salt instead of regular salt and I think it really did make the flavor pop. And I remembered to get a photo before we ate it all.
Sunday we plan to bag up the parsnips to store in the fridge. Even though the humidity in the new root cellar is over 80%, the parsnips are drying out. If I had a sand box, I could have put them in that…
We also hope to cut up the branches that came off the magnolia. It’s to be pretty cold on Sunday, so I won’t be out there long.
We’ve got quiche planned for supper.
