On Sunday it was very quiet here all morning. My brother slept in and I worked on plant notes, finishing the New Herb garden section, a big one.
When he got up he wanted to get started on our projects, so we went outside to get the chainsaw and collect tools. Well, as usual it took forever to find things, and we never did find the bright orange 3’ chainsaw case with the chainsaw tool in it.
It was pretty cold and very windy and I knew I’d be worn out by the time we got this done.
So we went to the store and got oil, gas, and the tool. We got the chainsaw running and got the stuff cut down and cut up.
And then the chainsaw seemed to seize up. It needed work anyways, so on Monday I’ll see if I can find someone to look at it.
I cut the best bud branches off the downed stuff to try to force and the rest we put over the bank.
I’ve never tried to force magnolia buds before and not heard of anyone doing it. So we’ll see if they open.
We’d decided to make a quiche of the leftover bacon and eggs needing eaten. My brother had found a gluten free crust for us to try.
It had lots of onion, a garlic clove, several small kale leaves chopped up, and the leftover bacon. We ended up putting 7 eggs beaten with coconut milk in and it was wonderful. As usual I forgot the photos, but there was one piece left…
Our last project was getting the parsnips from the root cellar and bagging them up to store in the fridge. I’ll be using the biggest ones in the corned beef and cabbage I’ll be making on Tuesday.
My brother had gotten into the habit of walking in the evenings and he started back at that last night. He was a bit ambitious and was gone for 2 hours instead of one. But he enjoyed it as this is a lovely town to walk in and many people do. Just not on a cold windy evening when it’s in the 30’s…
On Monday it’s laundry as usual, and I hope to work on the plant notes. We’re having leftover parsnip chowder for supper. It’s to be a sunny but cold day, so I won’t need the stoves.
