On Saturday, even though it was a nice day, I decided to get the amendment project finished. I worked on it all day with a couple hour break mid afternoon. I didn’t finish.
On Sunday morning I got up and worked on it until around 8AM and got it as done as I could. What’s left is contacting a company for amendment analysis and doing a new inventory. I made all the amendment mix sheets for next year so I know what I need. Then I can work up orders for what I need.
Once that was done, I went out and cleaned up the kitchen because my brother and I were doing what might be the last basil pesto making.
I got as much set up as I could as I waited for him to get up. We went out and picked 2 huge bowls of basil and then got it cleaned up.
We used a lot of garlic from what’s hanging in the shed. It has not cured much at all, it’s just too humid I guess. This week is to be cooler and drier and I hope it cures. The onions will soon need harvested and hung to dry.
Part of setting up is making sure each ingredient has its own measure, to try to contain the oily mess.
We have been adding ground rosemary to our mix. I use a coffee grinder for that.
Then we started making the mess. I was in charge of the food processer and making the pesto. My brother kept 2 cups packed of leaves spun in the salad spinner, the garlic ready, the rosemary ground up, and he packed the jars.
We started at 9AM when he got up and I finished at 12:30PM with the last of the clean up. We got 7 pints, including the half pint made on Friday. There was a little left over and my brother said he’d make pesto burgers for supper.
I got to sit down for about an hour before having to get a shower and get ready to go to the concert.
My friend picked me up at 2:15PM and off we went.
From the bio on the back of the program, this woman, from Ukraine, has played in many competitions all over the world and has won many of them. She has reached such a standard of excellence that she was granted the Extraordinary Abilities in the Arts permanent US residence.
She had selected works that apparently had to be played quickly as she was lightning fast on the keyboard. Watching her hands was fascinating. I guess because of the speed, she finished the concert sooner than other concerts in the past.
So I was home earlier and I started the batata salad for supper. My brother got home around 5:30PM and made his pesto burgers. He says there’s no rule they have to be round. I had cut up some of the ripe tomatoes to go with the supper.
He had gone for a ride in his vintage Mustang and brought it home. This is something he seldom does due to the dirt driveway and dust. After supper we went for a ride and stopped at our favorite place for ice cream. We both got blueberry with blueberry sauce. Yum!
On Monday my #2 intern will be here at 8AM and start loading more book boxes into the car. I’m hoping they all fit and that project will be finished. Then we head to the bookstore to get rid of them.
We may have a couple errands to do. I should go outside afterwards and work on gardens. I also have laundry to do.
