La doctora Mariana cerró la puerta de la sala de guardia con una mezcla de cansancio y satisfacción, era su último día de trabajo antes del retorno. Había llegado hacía dos años como parte de una misión internacionalista, convencida de que su deber era compartir conocimientos y aliviar dolores más allá de las fronteras de su país. Sin embargo, sufría al saber que su país ya no era lo que ella soñaba. Le llegaban noticias tristes y funestas por todas partes. La vida allí no era fácil. Los hospitales carecían de insumos, las guardias eran interminables, la burocracia complicaba cada paso y el dinero no tenía valor. La vida toda se había convertido en una lucha por la supervivencia. La ultima noches, al caminar por las calles iluminadas de Rio de Janeiro, Mariana pensaba en Cuba con nostalgia y añoranza. Extrañaba a su familia, a sus amigos y sus cálidos abrazos. Pero pronto los vería a todos. En solo unas horas estaría pisando su suelo. A la mañana siguiente, en el aeropuerto, la joven doctora estaba en una larga fila a punto de hacer el checking. Luego de un rato, montada en un taxi que se alejaba, alcanzó a escuchar: _Último llamado a los pasajeros del vuelo l959 con destino a La Habana.

Dr. Mariana closed the door of the on-call room with a mix of exhaustion and satisfaction; it was her last day of work before returning. She had arrived two years earlier as part of an internationalist mission, convinced that her duty was to share knowledge and alleviate suffering beyond the borders of her country. However, she suffered knowing that her homeland was no longer what she had dreamed of. Sad and grim news reached her from all sides. Life there was not easy. Hospitals lacked supplies, shifts were endless, bureaucracy complicated every step, and money had no value. Life itself had become a struggle for survival. Those last nights, as she walked through the illuminated streets of Rio de Janeiro, Mariana thought of Cuba with nostalgia and longing. She missed her family, her friends, and their warm embraces. But soon she would see them all. In just a few hours, she would be setting foot on her homeland. The next morning, at the airport, the young doctor stood in a long line, about to check in. A while later, as she sat in a taxi pulling away, she managed to hear: _Final call for passengers of flight l959 bound for Havana.
