It’s the age-old question that needs to be answered when making your favorite pasta sauce: Do I add meatballs or sausage? This week, as we settle into our Christmas routines and start planning our meals, this rivalry of all food rivalries will make things very interesting in both the kitchen and at the dinner table! Which will prevail in the hearts and minds of cooks and eaters in my home?
Meatballs
What a great tradition these have in my home! I’ve been eating meatballs since I was a child. I’ve been making or helping to make meatballs since I was a child too! I love meatballs! What can I say? They’re in my blood! And having them in my pasta sauce is a no-brainer. Who ever heard of spaghetti without meatballs?
This week, if I choose to make meatballs, I will make my traditional recipe and also try something with a twist! It goes something like this: I might put fresh mozzarella cheese inside the meatball and cook it! Have you ever heard of such a thing?? We’ll have to see if meatballs win in order to find out if this actually happens!
Sausage
If any food could give meatballs a run for their money, it would be sausage! It’s such a versatile food that can be eaten at any time of day. Breakfast sausage with eggs and toast? Absolutely! Dinner sausage with peppers and onions on a toasted bun? Indeed! Slices of sausage with some cheese, crackers, and wine for a midnight snack? Who wouldn’t??
When it comes to pasta sauce, a good Italian sausage can really add some exquisite flavor to your dish of choice. You can serve it whole and let each person slice it as they go, or you can slice it ahead of time for a nice presentation. Whatever the choice, it’s sure to be delicious! If I choose to make sausage this week, it’ll definitely be a win-win for everybody!
