The fastest way to get into that cave is across the lake. The ice looked quite solid and as you took your first few steps on it there were no sounds of cracking either. So you went for it slowly walking out across it. Trying your best to not slip and fall.

It would still be a bit of a walk out to the cave. At least you were sure it was a cave after about twenty minutes of walking. You also did some looking around and noticed there were quite a few trees around the lake as well.

On occasion, some nasty gusts would stir up pushing you slightly forward. You were almost gliding if you could hold a position a couple of steps before the wind would pass. Thankfully the wind never knocked you over.

After being over halfway across the lake is when things started to get a little terrifying. You took a step and a large crack formed in the ice. Your slow walk turned into a quick jog. It seems the middle of the lack was not as solid as you were hoping.

Just to be safe you put on your spacesuit helmet. If in the event you did fall into the water you would at least be able to breathe and not freeze to death in the short term. That would however require you to find a way out of the ice.

Thankfully that never happened. By the time you crossed the lake and back onto shore again, you removed the helmet. It was time to explore that cave and hope this risk was worth it.
