You headed back north through the tundra hoping if you do need to find something that it would be found in some caves. There are caves further north than where you are going as well. For now, though you would have to settle your mind on going through the first tundra before making up your mind about where you wanted to go.
You were hoping to save some energy by at least finding the former temporary shelters you had already set up. An incoming blizzard and high winds would make such a feat nearly impossible. Even further so since you did not exactly take the same route back north.
The blizzard got so bad at one point you took shelter behind some rocks for several hours. It was a whiteout condition anyways so it was far too dangerous to continue moving further ahead.
Once the storm passed this left you with a little bit of daylight left to try and make up for a lost time before having to call it a night. The next several days were met with high winds and heavy snow flurries as you attempted to make it back north.
One can only hope making such a journey back north was worthwhile. You could go explore the caves or head further north through another tundra or you could choose to make the journey again south.
