You inform the ship to land in the forest. That location is right in the middle between the other two possible areas. If nothing else you are hoping to learn a lot more about the surrounding areas in hopes of being able to choose if you don’t find something in the forest to check out next.
The forest is covered in emerald-green pine-looking trees. While this is an alien moon to you and you doubt they are pine trees they sure do look and even smell like pine resin. The forest outside of this clearing is quite dense in this area on the moon. It looks like it will provide some nice shelter from the giant wind storms that are possible according to the computer to occur on this moon.
The ship landed with a bit of a thud. While one of the landing thrusters went out while the ship was descending it was hardly noticeable as the ship has quite a few reductant systems that were able to overcompensate for it.
The bay doors opened and you grabbed the emergency shelter. Being able to truly sleep under the stars is something you could have only dreamed of while living in a dome your entire life. You were not going to pass up this opportunity by sleeping on the ship.
After some final tests, the computer reported back the air on this moon was more than breathable although it seemed it had an elevated risk of fires. There was 25% oxygen, 74% nitrogen, and 1% other trace gases that are not harmful in the amounts they were detected.
You can also see there are three different paths in this area. One trail is heading east, another west, and another one is going north. The trails heading east and west could connect to the other two landing spots.
After walking around the clearing for a while it all appears to be quite flat. You decided the best place set up the emergency shelter is just not next to any of the three trails. You have no idea what created it and you would hate to put a shelter down right in front of the trail in case it was attempted to cross it during the night.
You also did not want to be right next to the ship either. As it would on occasion still be making normal loud ship sounds as different systems cycled. Not to mention the ship was still performing deep analytics of the moon itself.
You end up selecting a spot that is just a couple of feet from the edge of the forest. It seemed to just be far enough from everything to be able to enjoy the surrounding while still feeling somewhat safe and not that far from the ship if you needed to make a run for it.
You take a look down both the east and west trails. They are quite flat to the point you could see for miles in either direction. It was clear it went on for a lot longer than that. After a short while the computer informs you that it would take at least three days of walking to reach the other camps by ground.
After looking down the north trail you notice it seems to lead to a cave. Other than that it appears this place has nothing else of interest. This was perhaps not the best place to pick as a first landing zone. The good news is at least it’s not that far away from the other landing areas by foot should you choose to venture elsewhere.
After a fair bit of exploring you decided to call it a night. You enjoy a food cube and just enjoy as the sun starts to lower down below the trees and the stars start to appear in the night sky. Tomorrow you will decide where you want to go and chest out the north, or east, or west.
