Me
I'm a Millennial trapped in a Gen-Xer's body.
What does that mean? It means, I'm very happy with change for starters. I expect to focus on my relationships as much as I do my work. It means I value experiences over money. Many times, the things that I see Millennials asking for are the things I want in my life too (flexible work schedules, work from anywhere, high degree of transparency, more time off, etc.)
A Michigan transplant living in Nashville, TN and I can say that I love it here....finally. It took awhile for me to find people that fit my free-thinking/liberal-socialist/creative lifestyle and the last few years of working in technology have led me to more and more friends that are like-minded.
This is what I look like (I like to take a lot of selfies):
My Work
Creating custom software projects is my day job (I'm a Product Owner/Account Rep). I'm part of a very cool development company in Nashville, Acklen Avenue. My team is mostly located in Honduras which I have had a chance to visit a few times and I feel like a piece of me is still there. My weekend/evening jobs include amateur chef, lounge singer and burgeoning guitar player.
My Voice
What do I have to talk about? A lot, I love to talk. I'll try to be somewhat organized in what I share, but be warned that I am also pretty comfortable with stream-of-consciousness rants. My personal interests at the moment: 1. getting my hair the optimum shade of blue 2. cooking the most delicious and healthy meal 3. mentoring women into technology positions 4. bringing a positive attitude everywhere I go and 5. developing one of my app ideas into reality.
My Family
This is my sweet man, Steve. He generally goes along with my shenanigans and keeps me grounded when my ideas become a little "too" much (example: "let's get a tiny house dear" which has downgraded to "let's get a smaller house honey"). This pic is from a costume party we had last New Year's. Steve is an aviation nut so he dressed up as a RAF officer from WW2.
These are my babies even though they are 23 and grown (twins). Rory and Justy are the coolest girls I know. Steve and I knew we did something right when they starting loving music that we loved (Primus, Cake, Wall of Voodoo). They are both super independent and continuous learners (we are a family of readers and music lovers and we often geek out together). Both girls are talented in many ways but one thing we have always done together very well is cook and bake. They aren't living at home so it's less frequent now but I still love when we get together to make delicious food.
I am pretty serious about our fur babies. Athena is the big fluffy dog on the left. The girls found her on the side of the road a few years ago and I agreed to keep her until we could find her owners (believe me I tried). Zoe is the white dog on the right and she is also a rescue. I am pretty sure she is bi-polar - but at least she takes turns liking one of us instead of hating everyone at once. Les is the small gray dog (don't tell him he's a cat because he so desperately wants to be one of the pack) and he is also a stray that wandered into our lives a few years ago. They are all a little neurotic and therefore fit in this family perfectly.
So, that's it..a little bit about me. You're going to find out more than you ever wanted to know once I start posting stuff. I already have a lot of content that I can't wait to share!
To confirm it's really me -
