It looks like a new line of Chinese LEGO knockoffs have hit the shelves at the local Dollar Tree. After the Mega Construx disappointment, I am pleased to say this set is mostly decent.
The pieces are all in a plastic bag that feels similar to that of many real LEGO products. The instructions, amazingly enough, are printed well on a fair-sized sheet. The bricks themselves have a good LEGO-like feel for the most part, although there are some sprue irregularities. There are also some very faint finish issues that are likely due to wear on the injection molds. The bind between bricks is just about perfect, though.
This model should also be considered in context of the full release. It is part of a set of six models that are intended to be linked together as a large robot. This is normally an awesome idea. These sets are decent enough, although some appeal to my sense of small model aesthetics more than others. I don't plan to buy the rest. Still, based on this one set, these are among the best LEGO knockoff construction sets I have seen at Dollar Tree so far. Just note that this is also the first set I have bought where the "colors may vary" warning applies beyond bad dye matches between bricks. The flag/wings look black on the box, but are dark grey in the instructions and in reality.
