When I think of broccoli, I always remember the cartoon Inside Out. It’s classic attitude to have towards broccoli, and to me it seems funny. :D But I’m sure there’re plenty of people who actually enjoy eating broccoli, I must say I am one of those. And my daughter, for a fun fact, also loves it, if cooked deliciously. So, to my mind, the actual thing is not that broccoli is not tasty, but that we sometimes fail to cook it in a delicious way.

It’s a known fact that the abilities of our brain strongly are dependent on a lifestyle we’re leading and amongst that all the food we’re eating. So, it’s all our choice and in our hands, we can transform ourselves by supporting our brain with the healthy lifestyle. Today I offer for you to look into broccoli from the point of view of how it’s healthy for our cognitive functions, for the health of our brain.
In addition to the fact that broccoli our bodies to fight cancer and heart diseases, researches show that sulforaphane which is in the broccoli helps to repair the tissue of a brain and can promote the growth of that tissue. Thus, such disease as Alzheimer’s can be prevented or it’s treatment can be enhanced with the help of broccoli.
Eating broccoli can boost your memory and enhance learning abilities. Also, it has been found that a green pigment Lutein that is found in broccoli protects the neurons and thus participates in preserving so called crystallised intelligence. This type of intelligence is responsible to make best decisions based on the experience we gained before in our life.
RECIPES IDEAS
Now, how can we eat broccoli so that it’s tasty and we can indulge the meal? I’ll share my favourite recipes, and I invite you to share yours as well, let’s get richer on the experiences together! I won’t rewrite the exact recipes as the internet is full of them, but still will share some ideas on how to cook broccoli.
🥗 Steamed vegetables
This is one of the easiest, maybe not so delicious for some of you, but very simple in preparation and still from time to time I am in mood for exactly this type of food. Basically what you do is get your favourite vegetables, such as carrot, broccoli, potato, cauliflower, etc and if you have a steaming machine just put it there to steam for some 40 minutes. Most often in my diet it goes with steamed or grilled salmon.
🥗 Broccoli cream soup
This is my favorite and I love it. I’m generally in love with various cream soups, and broccoli cream soup is one of them. Again, what you do is get broccoli and et it boiled. Actually, it could be not just broccoli, but you can also add any other vegetable of your choice. When the vegetables are ready you blender it all to have a creamy substance. And I just love when in such a soup of broccoli a bit of crunchy fried bacon is added, it adds some nice touch and interesting flavor.
🥗 Raw broccoli as a snack
This one is actually quite new to me. I tried it at my friends’ in a company of vegans. :) You just prepare your favorite souce, for example sour cream with some seasoning. Also, here in Latvia we have and love such soft cheese which excellently fits as a sauce in such conditions. And what you do is take a raw piece of broccoli and dip it into the sauce. And eat it. Yumm. :) Try it, it tastes better than sounds. :D
