Distractions, that seems to be the thing we crave the most. Why? What are we running away from? Could it be ourselves? What is so bad about being bored, that you need to find stimulation at all times, the phone, the computer, music, it doesn't matter, something.
There is an old saying that promotes the idea that interesting people never get bored. I think this could be partially true, in the sense that we might not agree to what being bored is. To someone being bored might be painful, being alone with your thoughts can reveal hidden truths. To others being bored is just uncomfortable, maybe they have become addicted to stimulation.
Within the context of balance, I think being bored is a good thing. What I mean by saying this, is that having some alone time to not do anything specific, to think about life, even if its five minutes is good for us. I can't count how many times I've sat there, smoking a cigarette alone with my thoughts and that small break, that moment of "boredom" did wonders for my emotional state.
That might be the goal, it could be that simple. Being bored, being alone, being undistracted might be a valid way of achieving an emotional balance. A simpler way of quieting everything around us and asking ourselves some some questions.
If you are bored... maybe that's a good thing...
