Time Cafe - Coffeemin
A Singaporean man set up a cafe where the cafe doesn't charge you for drinking coffee, eating snacks, using their facilities, their wifi, it's all free of charge. However, it charges your TIME.
Jonathan Ye is the founder of Coffeemin, since the cafe is about time, he combined the idea of "coffee" and "minute" as the cafe's name. The reason he got this idea is that he noticed the Singaporean culture of hogging cafe seats with a single drink doesn't work on overseas.
“Western culture accepts paying for services such as time […] and staff clear the table the moment we finished, so as to pressure customers to continue spending or leave.”
“I decided to bring the [concept] to the city. People could have a home away from home, with the freedom to just pay for the time they spend there,” Ye said.
Every 10 minutes at Coffeemin is just $1 per person. However, the first hour per person is $6 during the weekdays and $8 during the weekends. But don't worry if the price is too expensive because the bill has been capped for $30 daily! Which means you can spend the time all you want in the cafe.
Inside the cafe, customers can order an Arabica coffee and eat snacks! The cafe also offers many facilities such as Xbox games, pool, books, surf the web and watch TV, and I looked at the facebook page, they even implemented a Virtual Reality Room for their customers!
