Orthodox Easter is around the corner and it is accustomed to visit our villages or hometowns. Thessaloniki is actually a 1 million town but my friends are so pissed when I tell them that I came to my village so I use the term all the time.
The trademark of Thessaloniki is this castle like building that we call The White Tower . It used to be a prison and many people died there. Instead of calling Red Tower we chose to call it White.
It is located in the center of the town by the seaside.
In Thessaloniki the best you can do is eat and drink coffee at the Paralia ( seaside ).
And this is what I did.
First some Steeming and coffee.
Then a traditional cheese pie called Kourou.
Some gyros. Sliced pork meat in bread with fries.
Gyros in Thessaloniki is more known for quantity.
And a local sweet for closing. We call it Trigono ( triangle ) .
Wheather was good so I ended up with a walk at the Paralia.
Bear in mind that I am not very fond of my hometown, but I admit that Paralia is one of the most beautiful walks one can have.
Thessaloniki is also known for its nightlife, but I keep this part for myself. OK ?
Thank you and keep on Steeming.
