The Food Fight
Every morning, I throw a bowl of cereal at my neighbor. If I'm lucky, some of the cocoa pebbles will get stuck in his nostrils and I can also get a laugh out of it. He slams the door in my face and I retreat to my apartment.
Every lunch, I slap an imitation pizza against the face of my coworker. Sauce splatters all around. It's similar to when a clown off and pies someone.
Every dinner, I open up my window and peg unsuspecting vehicles with scraps from my meal, whatever the meal may be on that particular evening.
I don't actually do any of that. It was a strange attempt at speaking figuratively.
I think about food all the time and wrestle with the thought of what we're supposed to eat. I think about how there are never any fat lions (for example). Here's probably why:
- They eat natural foods
- I assume they get exercise by running
- And they appear to have a more innate understanding than humans of the amount of food they need to eat for that day(s)
Interestingly, they obviously don't feel badly about ripping other animals to shreds to satisfy their hunger either.
I enjoy eating meat, but I always question if we're supposed to at this stage of civilization (as humans, at least). I try to eat just enough meat to get some decent protein...but some people eat meat during 85%+ of their meals - and to excess in many of those meals. Seems extreme to me.
It's not as if I can afford to heavily choose what I want to eat. It often takes a nice financial income to have that luxury.
Plus, if I were to forego meat completely, a diet of such would seem to require a lot of carbs and processed foods. Not sure that that's any better of a way to live. Weight gain would be inevitable and the body would suffer over time.
Then, there's #1 - the difference between countries (some countries can afford to implement certain changes) and #2 - foods' effects on economy (if a change is implemented, it will likely effect the economy).
I think about my step-brother, who is an attorney. His starting annual salary out of college was probably $80,000 USD and I don't understand it. He's an alright person, but we just don't talk a whole lot. I've seen pictures of him on vacation basking in financial glory and taking part in glamorous meals.
I just can't imagine it. In pictures, he and his wife dress themselves up as America's couple and they boost this persona even further by claiming to be Christians. It upsets me a little, I guess. I can't imagine needing more than $50,000 USD a year unless you had a bunch of children to take care of.
Maybe that's why I liked baseball growing up. It's a bit natural. It's simple and can help keep you in fair shape.
As I've mentioned before, I don't really eat beef/cow. I think it's been at least three months now. Not sure if it's really all that noble of a choice given that I am still open to eating pork, chicken, turkey, and seafood.
I've thought a lot about food, veganism, and vegetarianism for the past couple of years now.
Cows are just so graceful - and they just sit there and politely eat grass. I also often philosophically wonder if we are to use an animal for but one purpose - and we already use cows for the purpose of milk.
Of course, we also use chickens for eggs and I have no problem eating chicken. Maybe it's because they look awkward.
Bit of hypocrisy there.
I digress.
I guess I want to be a bit of a minimalist. I think that's a quality most of us could use or at least learn from. There are certainly occasions when I stuff my face with food. I can't lie about that. I'd say I'm more mindful about it than some around here, though.
Not sure if this is an American problem or a world problem, but I'm kind of tired of my internal fight with food and throwing soggy cocoa pebbles at my neighbor.
