Golden beasts! Killer Crabs!!! What a beer weekend this is promising to be. The good lady is away, learning the secrets of the feminine and that means Big Stewpit gets a chance to come out and play! (My rarely seen alter ego)
It feels like a good day for a beer so without further ado, let me get stuck in...
Golden Beast, I must say, these chaps certainly know how to name a beer. Even better, the blurb on the bottle claims all manner of nonsense about antlered beasts and otter barley.
Sounds a bit nuts? Yes! So let's pour this cheeky otter of a thing.
It looks a bit plain. Like it's name should be Mariella and it's sad that it hasn't been invited to the grand ball. It's golden at least. So it has fulfilled that part of its name. Not much of a head. Oh well, let's sling it down the hatch.
It's rather pleasant, very hoppy at first but that fades quickly into a slight fruity bitterness. At first I was tempted to think it was too smooth but it is quite a pleasant drinking beer. The more you have the more you want.
A pleasant 6.5/10 booms.
Which takes me on to the majestic beer below.
I hope everyone gets the Simpsons reference which I assume this beer to be talking about.
It's bloody strong. I am looking after the little lady this weekend on my own so I had better not have six of these or I will be waking up in the Big Hoose as they say!
Amusingly, apart from the head it is quite similar in looks to the last one. A bit cloudier thankfully. The head is a big frothing cloud of white wetness. Very enticing. It also smells rather good.
Well that is quite the splendid beer. It's bitter as an old man on a park bench who has run out of cigarettes but in a good way. The bitterness is a chewy affair and lasts long after you have swigged a gob full down.
It's very moreish and astonishingly, possibly dangerously, it doesn't taste that strong. I think that might be the oats, they always have a mellowing effect on strong hops.
I will give this fellow 7.5/10 booms
Magnificent, well, I am going to drink a little more but not get mad with it as they say here. After all, it's responsible parenting weekend!!
Have a good weekend everyone.
Cheers!
