Let me also share some of the things I knew from my friends.
This is somewhat innevitable for woman to be scared of getting fat because of the following reasons:

1. History- their experiences when they were still a child really affects them. Being bullied as fat and ugly. This is awful but it's a reality. I hope the discrimination will never stop but I pray it will lessen.
2. Fat is associated with ugliness
3. I would agree with you that women are prone to compare to other who has slender body this is because of the standards of men's eyes. Tsk! Hurting but true. But I am praying that these women will realize how beautiful they are and the real beauty must come from the inside.
