I'm sad today. I finished my last jar of Branston Pickle. I brought 2 back from the UK and have eaten them both. I wanted to eke them out a little longer but I just didn't have the will power.
These little tastes of home mean a lot, help me to feel connected and Branston goes particularly well with rice and eggs, as well as getting blathered between two slices of bed in a nice sandwich.
I am sure someone sells it somewhere here but no doubt if I found some, it would be extortionately expensive. All imported food stuffs carry huge import taxes. The Thai government protecting their own economy and supporting their own manufacturing base is all very well but this old immigrant needs his supplies !
I will save the nice jar though and put 'stuff' in it. Perhaps the larb I freshly made this morning.
I always prefer food stuff out of glass. I don't know why I feel it tastes better. Coke, HP and all other manner of sauces can be bought in plastic but it doesn't taste quite as good. Not sure which is best for the environment. Glass or recyclable plastic? Both get weighed in at the local scrap merchants here but which uses the most energy and natural resources to create I wonder ? Yes. It's a slow day today!
A grumpy afternoon lies ahead as I rue the end of my Branston and the fact that hasn't worked for a week.
Right. It's 2.30. Time to mentally prepare for the little loves to turn up and learn a bit of English. Biff, Kipper and Chip. Your time is nigh!
