One of the best things of living a human life must be our ability to cook and eat such a wide variety of food. I am a big time foodie and I just love the food that tingles my taste buds. One of the earliest people that I came to know in the food industry was Anthony Bourdain - well-spoken, adventurous and an ardent food lover. I like that man as much as I hate Gordon Ramsay (blame my boyfriend who made me watch Ramsay's arrogant restaurant makeover shows, back to back!!). Just yesterday I read in the news that Anthony Bourdain had died in his home, possibly a suicide. Such a tragedy.
Maybe its due to the excellent communication system or perhaps it is now our world's reality, but more and more people seem to suffer from some form of mental health issue at some point in their lives. While researching on this topic I found that:
"Geneva, 4 October— One in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide."
Though there is an increased awareness regarding this issue, not much has been done in terms of actual health policies or provisions for treatment.
"Currently, more than 33% of countries allocate less than 1% of their total health budgets to mental health, with another 33% spending just 1% of their budgets on mental health. There is only one psychiatrist per 100,000 people in over half the countries in the world, and 40% of countries have less than one hospital bed reserved for mental disorders per 10,000 people."
Not even the funniest jokes or the richest houses can keep one protected from this issue as shown by many cases, including Robin Williams.
For my first post I didn't think that the topic would be so serious. I was thinking of something on the lighter note such as "Mars hydrocarbon discovery" or "finding motivation". But today while reading about "16 ways how to find motivation in life", I learnt that the first step towards getting out yourself "out of a slump" is to choose a simple single goal and not complicate one's mind with multiple things. As an effort to get out of my slump, my goal for today was to write this blog and I am glad that I am on my way to achieving that goal today. I also caught 9 pan fish today, but that's a different story.
