Today I started my first new job in nearly 20 years. It certainly feels strange to go to a new office with different people. It's a big organisation, so getting some things sorted out may take a while such as getting the right software on my PC. I've been given various documents to read to get me up to speed. The people are nice and the working environment is not too bad.
One big plus is that it's much nearer home. It's just a ten minute train journey with a short walk at each end rather than driving at least 90 minutes each way as I have done for so long. I may even switch to cycling to the station to make it even quicker. Either way I'll be getting more exercise than before.
Even in the office I'll get more exercise as my office is up two floors and to go to the toilets I have to go back down and then up another flight of stairs. They have these signs on most stairways so you can scan them with the StepJockey app. I may not bother as I have the Google Fit app logging my steps anyway. I clocked up over an hour of walking today. Maybe I'll even lose a bit of weight.
A new start late in your working life is a big step, but I think it could be the right one for me.
I'm not going to talk about exactly where I work. I respect the privacy of my employer.
