Mr Wang is back with another review for everybody to check out and tune in on. Today I will review this awesome sauce of a unexpected gem, Stranger Things, An 80's period pieced together from what looks like leftovers of #ET, #Goonies, #Creepshow, #Poltergeist and #Tron.
Yesterday I decided to take a day off from steeming and chillax on the meds. Usually when that happens, I go comatose and veg out on food, coke/beer and either porn or movies...
...correction, I don't drink beer when I watch porn...that's creepy
Considering my son was with me.. I had to zip it up and watch something kid friendly. I switched from pornhub to Netflix and was immediately greeted with a sweet looking picture reminding me of some 80's movie I forgot to watch by myself because I was a scaredy cat.
Not only did i notice it was a Netflix original but it was rated TV-14 had kids riding bikes on the cover and it had Winona Ryder don't know about you but that's cool enough beans for me to try and enjoy with my son.
Only one problem stood in my way... Winona Ryder, when I think about her in the 80's, well this image comes to mind...
Rina - 1986 - Lucas
2nd place Rina
Now for any 80's child or more precisely ANY 80's BOY you can understand how this character is a let down because it only promotes this mentality of settling or accepting somebody on your level. I debated myself for a minute and my son probably aged and went thru puberty and back again as I took my time really contemplating if I wanted to experience this conflicting message from the 80's that went totally against all John Hughes movies.
Then I remembered, Winona Ryder wasn't to blame... not even Molly Ringwald or Fat Ricki Lake.. it was
Kerry Green - SLUT.. i mean LUCAS - 1986
Watch Lucas then come at me bro
She was the biggest tease of the 80's.. let's not forget what she did to poor little Mikey in the Goonies. This chic single handily told every nerd that she was only down for the jocks. SLUT
Anyways.. I got way off topic there.. probably some very important issues I might want to consider reviewing with my therapist next session but definitely not on #Steemit. So "Second Place Rina" is how I refer to her as and well... Winona Ryder is kinda annoying for quite a while.. in a way she kind of lives up to the "2nd place Rina" title she earned back on Lucas. Don't get me wrong.. she eventually redeems herself but at the beginning.. she's a little off and at times...
I swear it was a prequel to Girl Interrupted
The best part about the show and also the reason I turned it on was all about the kids. You felt like you were watching some deleted scenes from E.T. or Creepshow where these little kids were unfortunately learning 80's scary movie rules to survival.
I did seriously question where the hell were the parents, at times but aside from that.. The badass soundtrack that included 80's classic jams was perfect. The theme music had me feeling like that weird dude from Tron was going to come out and make things even more awkward.
that weird dude from Tron
Don't believe me.. Hear for yourself, Theme Music below
In the end... I binged watched ALL 8 episodes in one day and have to say I was all in from the start. I give it 2 thumbs up and suggest everyone to jump on this show. The one thing I should mention is that my son lasted 5 minutes before deciding it was too scary for him.. I guess I can kind of agree with him for his age. ;)
If you need some words of encouragement.. watch the trailer below
Till next time... Adios homies
