Día de les Illes Balears (Day of the Balearic islands ) is celebrated each year on the 1st of March. It is a public holiday to commemorate the signing of the Statute of Autonomy on March 1st, 1983 which granted autonomous status to all of the Balearic Islands .
I love a bank holiday , the weather was spectacular , I spent the day looking at houses , the estate agents were nice enough to show me a few places despite it being their day off. Working in an office means it’s difficult to do some things here because a lot of people only work until 17.30 , the time I leave . The banks here are ridiculous! You have to make an appointment in most just to put money in , since Covid started , most close their tills at 11.00 or 12.00 so it’s impossible for me to go .
After seeing a few properties , We stopped for lunch in a beautiful little town called sillot , it’s a beach town on the east coast of Mallorca where I live. It sounds crazy , but up until a year ago , I had never tried sea food , I was as so convinced I’d not like it , but I’m now obsessed ! Being British most people assume I love “ fish n chips “ but fish and sea food never appealed to me. I also don’t eat fry-ups or baked beans on toast.
I had “ pulpo a la gallega “ which is Galician octopus And also calamares which is basically squid rings , it was fabulous. The restaurant itself was beautiful, right next to the beach , it was the perfect setting to sit back and people watch .
A huge group passed on rollerblades which has literally made me wanna dig out my old skates and get back into it , the only problem is now I’m older , I’m much more scared of falling . Does anyone else feel like the older they get , the more fear they have ?
I used to love the fair and last year I was terrified of everything I went on , it was the first time it ever happened , I felt dizzy too for hours after , my son had a blast and I’ll be taking him to Palma this weekend to the Feria de la RAM , so stay tuned for pictures of me looking like death !
Let me know if it’s just me who’s gone soft in her old age or it others suffer too ..
