Faith - a word known to all of us. And also very frequent. But do we really understand its meaning? What does it mean to believe? Why do we believe in what we believe?
It is simple, although many have made something very complex out of it. To believe in something means only one thing - something we have heard often, something that was repeated to us a large number of times or even something that we said to ourselves frequently enough. When that happens during multiple, days, months and even years, it becomes our faith. We start to believe in it. And that is all.
Why do Christians believe in Jesus Christ? Why do Buddhists believe in Buddha and his teachings? Why do Muslims believe in Allah? Why is it that in India, a cow is a holy animal, whereas in other parts of the world it is eaten?
Why does some girl thinks that she is ugly or fat? Why does some kid believe that something is impossible? Why does someone think that he is going to die from the disease he has? Because someone made them believe. When it is about religion, it mostly depends on our place of birth.
Since childhood, we've been hearing the stories from our parents, going to the Holy house appropriate for practicing our religion, reading the books about the God they have provided. If you were born in India, they taught you that cow is sacred. I have been eating beef since I can remember and most of us thinks that it is entirely acceptable to eat a cow.
Do you understand? The question of belief and faith is mostly a question of our origin. Why does some girl thinks that she is fat or ugly? Because she was mocked at school. And she was made fun of until she started to believe in it herself. In the beginning other's have made her believe, and in the end it was herself who kept the fire burning. She actually believes that is the truth.
The same thing happens when a child thinks that something is impossible. It has heard it from the parents, professors, the environment. The kid has heard it so many times that it started to believe in it.
A person who is diagnosed with a disease, has heard stories of people dying from it. That person's focus is not on the one that was cured, but on hundreds that have died. It is what he reads about, it it is what he talks about. He also listens to people who also believe the disease is incurable. And, unfortunately, in the end starts to believe in it himself.
That means to believe in something. Faith is therefore merely a thought that you have repeated to yourself enough times so that it became your present, your reality.
But it also means one more thing - a belief can be changed. If you repeat something to yourself frequently, you will start to believe it. And it will manifest in your reality because we are the creators that create using beliefs and focus.
And this is great news. If you believed until now that you are a sinner, that suffering is necessary to meet the God, that there is Hell, that you are not good enough, that you are not capable, that you can't have love or health that you wish for, or that you will die being poor, now you know that you can change all of that.
Beliefs create your reality, and reality is not entirely what you believed it is so far.
Note: Take the meaning of entities like God, holy, hell in any way that suits you the best.
