Here's a fun comedy about secrets and betrayals. The story isn't original as this is the second remake of the Italian movie Perfetti Sconosciuti (2016) which I had already seen, a couple of years ago.
Yesterday I reviewed the French movie Rémi Sans Famille (2018), which I ended up watching in English since I didn't found the original version. This time, I didn't make the same mistake and was able to grab the original one... Listening to the real voices of the actors makes the experience of cinema a lot more enjoyable, even if that means having to read English subtitles. 😉
I decided to watch this remake as the Spanish director Álex de la Iglesia is no stranger to me, so I was sure he was going to deliver a good movie. The Italian movie holds the Guinness World Records title for the most remade film in cinema history. Believe it or not, 18 versions of this movie were released... under a little less than 3 years. 😲
The plot is a simple one. A group of friends join for dinner and, as they are about to start, they start talking about secrets which leads to an idea: why not putting all of their phones over the table and share with the whole group any phone calls and text messages that arrive during the dinner...?
As you expect, sooner or later all kinds of secrets and betrayals start flying around. Arguments begin. While some cry and fight, others laugh hysterically... the dinner party turns into a mess of giant proportions. 😂
It becomes crystal clear that the group has been lying and hiding secrets from each other for a long time! Or hasn't it...?
Perfectos Desconocidos (2017), by Álex de la Iglesia: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6101820
The movie is in Spanish, with English subs, and the action occurs pretty much in a single living room. Even though, the movie is visually very appealing. The outside shots are rare but quite good, specially when the huge blood moon starts to appear.
The actors are all very convincing and play their parts really well. You can really get a feeling of empathy with some of them, as their emotions start popping out.
Despite being a remake, I give this title an 8 out of 10. It's a very good version, just as good as the original one.
