Have you ever sat in front of your computer and just stared at the screen? You really want to say something but you don't know where to begin. That is the way I feel at this very moment. Believe me, I have stuff that I should be handling right now. Somehow, I just needed those few moments (or 30 minutes) to just decompress. I just got back from working the Food Pantry at my church, which is basically situated in a garage. It was really cold out there. My hands are still numb from trying to write in this weather. Either way, I enjoy helping people that can't afford to pay the ever-rising prices at the supermarket.
The Hope Chest Pantry is usually well-stocked, but we sometimes run out of a few items. Eggs and milk come in very sporadically. We have canned goods galore! Ground beef, whole chickens and pork chops have been stocked for awhile. Cold cereal, rice, potatoes, carrots, pasta and stuffing have been always available for the most part. A good crowd showed up today, some from the lunch program and others specifically for the Pantry. This is only a small fraction of the mission work that the Lacey United Methodist Church in Forked River, New Jersey, does for the community. I still want to get the word out more so that others in need know that they can come here.
My tradition has been to treat my significant other to either ice cream or a slice of pie after we finish up at the Pantry. Pulling into Mrs. Walkers on Route 9, we noticed that the place was closed for repairs. Ice Cream wasn't going to happen today (or at least from this place). The next stop was Mr. Softee, which until last summer I only knew as an ice cream truck that offered soft serve in the Bronx, where I grew up. Well, this free-standing location offers hard ice cream as well. I didn't care if my hands were still numb because ice cream makes everything better.
I guess I should start doing some of the things I wanted to do before I started babbling. Wow, I didn't mention anything about the upcoming snowstorm, the current Covid pandemic, the Russia situation, the China situation, the Baseball Lockout, losing Meatloaf and Louie Anderson within the same week, as well as any of the other crazy events happening in our world. Well, I can save all of that for next time, if I can't think of anything to say.
