Can't we go back to Medicine is Food and Food is Medicine?
Since I've discovered the communities that really match the way I like to think about life, I have been inspired to learn more about natural medicine, midfulness and health in general.
There are so many posts that have helped me learn, I couldn't list them all and I probably wouldn't be able to find them all anyways... It would take me too much time. Saying that, makes me think perhaps I should start cataloguing the posts I learn from the most!
Though I guess that's already been done within the communities' Disccord channels.
I have talked a few times about these communities but here they are again:
@Eco-Train where we can find all sorts people talking about midfulness, natural freedom and making the wotld a better place. It a very inspiring and uplifting space. Posts under the #ecotrain tag range from psychology to eco friendly building techniques.
@NaturalMedicine which stands for its name. This one is a very supportive space for all natura medicine questions. You'll find all sorts of magic potions and remedies for the body and the mind. Another very inspiring group!
@HomesteadersCoop is the community based around a free market platform where all things handmade with sustainable and ethical practices can be exchanged with STEEM, SBD and USD. The blog itself is a place full of educational subjects revolving around homesteading, wildcrafting and health.
@Ghscollective which stands for Global Homestead collective is Uniting, Educating, and Encouraging individuals in all aspects of self reliant living around the globe. This is again another source of great inspiration as they compile all sorts of really amazing content.
Inspired to make and create
I came home the other night after having just been disgusted by the useless amounts of plastic at the grocery store again, and made bread! Yeah, because the available bread is either stupid expensive (for the so called better stuff) or just full of ingredients I don't know how to pronounce!!!
It's the second time I have used this recipe, it really works well, it's easy to follow and tje bread comes out delicious!!!
Thanks to for this wonderfull recipe.
This time I tried something a little different, I didn't brade it and baked it without an egg yoke. It worked just as well too!
Then once the bread was doing its thing in the oven I prepared a pine needle tea inspired by @Walkerland in this Conifer Recipes: Celebrating Yuletide & Kitchen Witchery
Here a recipe for one cup of medicinal tea:
Source
- Cut the ends of small handfull of needles off (the end that attaches to the twig). Scissors work really well for that!
- Chop into 1/4 inch pieces.
- Boil in a cup of water for 3 minutes.
- Let seep, covered for 10 minutes.
- Strain and Drink!
I find it to taste like it smells, like a winter forest with a bit of chrismas tree kind of thing. It was pleasantly refreshing and good š²!
What about fermented foods... they're so expensive and in the end seem so very easy to make. It's lime kambucha, I don't really understand why the price tag is the way it is, it's a super simple process and fun to make at home. You also end up with a product ypu can fine tune to your taste and you know exactly what ingredients were used! It's a win win situation.
Ok so I found this video that explained very clearly how to make kimchi, sriracha and sauerkraut. So I went out and bought a cabage and some salt... what had been stalling my attempts to male fermented foods was not searching hard enough for the right recipient and weight to start with. In this video, he uses a plastic sandwich bag full of water to fill the space and push the food bellow the brine to create the anaerobic environment needed!
I thought it was brilliant except for the plastic bag touching my food... I instead looked for a jar with a mouth just big enough a smaller masson jar could fit right inside, doing the same job the sandwich bag was doing in the video. A little cleaner for my taste!
I didn't start the fermentation process once again, I realized I was leaving town the mext day and wanted to be around whe I do start, to keep anbeye on it!
Weel that evening after work felt very productive, I started to embody the bread recipe a little more amd the pine needle tea. I even did some joint exercises I was recently exposed to by Daniel Vitalis' Podcast (Rewild Yourself).
Until Next Time...
