We’re growing mushrooms! 我们养蘑菇在北京
We now have to harvest every 6 hours! Before we started our mushroom greenhouses, I was pretty much a novice working on a small 30cm long log of rice husks waiting patiently for them to grow. Now we have expanded to over 800sqm of space on the outskirts of China’s Capital of Beijing in Shunyi District.
We start by creating a medium with a mixture of pasteurized and fermented rice, soy and corn husks before being injected with the spores of our mushroom of choice. This takes a bit of time, but after we are done, we inject thousands of sleeves with Oyster mushroom spores. We chose these because they do relatively well in our humidity and with this medium. It's a super delicate and sterile environment at this stage, but afterwards it is relatively fun and easy to manage and watch them grow.
Each sleeve can grow 5-10kg depending on how many injections and the length of time you let it sit. We are expecting about 6000kg or so from each 400sqm greenhouse. We’ll get three harvests from each ‘log’, the first one in two weeks, second two weeks later, and then the last harvest about four weeks after that.
Take a look below and let me know what you think.
All pictures we took over the course over the last few weeks.
Cheers,
