The Rookie Season 2 Episode 13 "Follow-Up Day" was a bit of a lighter episode for the show. We still had lots of interesting things happening in the show, especially for Nolan and Bradford.
Might as well start with Nolan, he had two interesting story lines today. First off his father died and left him his Chevelle, which was delivered by his half-brother he wasn't aware that he even had. Second Nolan finally asks out Grace, the new love interest we've been building towards in the later part of this season.
It was kind of fun seeing Nolan and his brother Pete, played by Pete Davidson, interact all episode and I hope we get to see him again later in the season. We got to see just how different the pair are and as the episode progresses we find out that Nolan's father been a bit of a dead beat and not a great father to Pete. Nolan and Pete are polar opposites and each help each other find some closure in their fathers death. It does take Pete stealing Nolan's car he got from his dad numerous times but hey, family isn't always perfect.
Next up we get to see Nolan and Grace finally go on their first date. This has felt like a long time coming. The two are old lovers and the story is they were in love before Nolan found out he had got his now ex-wife pregnant. Nolan left Grace behind to raise his child. Now the pair is getting a second chance and started it off with a weird date thanks in large part to his new brother Pete. It was an awkward start but I'm guessing we at least see Grace stick around for the rest of the season.
Bradford got some good news tonight, 8th place on the detective exam and a good shot at a promotion to sergeant sometime in the next year. I'm glad good things are happening for Bradford. His character has changed quite a bit since the beginning of the show and every time we see a bit more of who he really is I like him more and more. I would be happy to see him get his promotion even if that meant he would be leaving the show.
Lastly we had a little bit more story with Wesley this week. His mother was thrown in jail for possession of a unregistered firearm and then we find out the gun was used in a armed robbery. Wesley's mother tosses him out in lieu of a better lawyer but in the end needs Wesley back since it's likely for criminal charges. Seems like Wesley is becoming more of a main character and we've seen Angela kind of slip to the background. Not sure the reasons behind that.
Overall this was a fun episode. Not ground shattering but still enjoyable. Was nice getting a glimpse deeper into Nolan's life and I hope we see his brother come back at some point in the future.
