I'm not a fan of tea ever since I was kid. Though my parents drinks some herbal tea like sambong leaves, bayabas and banaba I am not really interested giving atleast a hint of taste. Now that I am an adult and today created a new perspective of seeing that natural remedy might be around all this like what we have in our yard.
This is our Lemongrass that my mother planted several months ago. It might look like an ordinary grass in the field like I used to know but I was wrong all this time. When I touched and picked some leaves, it has a distinct smell like lemon. I was amazed how it smell and the fact that it has medicinal benefits for human.
So I picked some leaves attached to its roots and cut the long leaves. Since the roots are attached I don't want to waste it so I decided to re-plant it using water method.
I used plastic bottle and put some water atleast half of it. Then I took bamboo skewer cut in half and 1 rubber bond. I carefully insert lemongrass upward and making sure that the roots was just the same level of the water.
I put it outside so it can have enough sunlight but this week the sun won't shine that much. I hope that it will shine the next day.
Now for the leaves, I soak it with water and wash the leaves one by one. Best to make sure that it is clean enough before making a tea. I measure 3 cups of water.
I make the knot the leaves and bring it to a boil for atleast 5 minutes over low medium heat. I allow it cool before I drink it.
The taste of it was kinda minty, grassy and lemony at the same time, I am not a good discriber. It is kinda refreshing and don't have an after taste. Some people add ginger and honey on their tea but I think I can drink this alone.
Some studies find lemongrass to be beneficial on our health aside from using it on cooking our food. It can helps us to detox of liver by flashing out from urine. It is anti microbial, aides digestion and can lower fever. Aside from that it has an antiseptic component. No wonder that the scent of lemon grass are widely use on keeping bugs and insects away.
It is known for it's relaxing aroma which can help reduce stress and anxiety. But be sure to study and research first before trying it at your own risk. There are some article says that it is not advisable to be taken by pregnant woman and cats too.
I hope you've learned something today and don't neglect the lemongrass again. It is a free gift from nature that's been around for thousands of years ago used by our ancestors. Thank you for reading my blog today and keep safe!
XOXO,
Rachelle
