I always shop for meat, fish, fresh fruits and veggies in the nearby wet market. I always seeing the same things like cod fish, sliced fin fish, sliced salmon, "kampong chicken" or the native Singapore chicken, and oh the never ending spinach leaves for the green leafy veggie. It's always usual for a tiring Saturday day. For fruits I always go for red dragonfruits, kiwi, papaya, and brown pears which I used to boil with barley for a healthy concoction. Yes, beside caregiving I'm a chef cook in my employer's lively and crampy kitchen since everybody wants to do business in the kitchen. For the whole day, I'm a kitchen "tambay" or bystander scrutinizing things or updating my menus for the day. My lady boss preferred vegetarian dishes from soups, to main dish with less oil and steam processing. The best part is I can invent my own food too. Of course it's my territory and I have conquered it. But the Filipino blood in me always seek justice in food. I always wanted to partake sinigang, pinakbet, adobo, "ginataang langka", "ginataang monggo," anything that goes with coconut milk. And if this madness doen't meet my senses I go with "ginataang gata." Joke! there's no such menu as that. But this morning was not an ordinary Saturday for me. Guess what? I found fresh bambooshoots and eventhough I'm hard up with my own money I grabbed it and payed six dollars. And the result was simply amazing. Craving solved!
