Marsh Gibbon Friendly Society Club day
Marsh Gibbon,
Oxfordshire,
England,
United Kingdom.
The Marsh Gibbon Friendly Society club day is an annual event which brings the local villagers together to celebrate their friendship.
Since 1788, it has and still is held every year, usually on a Saturday and sees most of the locals turn up and roll up their sleeves to crack in to a bit of ‘spud bashing’ for the annual feast before partaking in the village parade between the two local public houses, the 'Greyhound' and the 'Plough'.
The early birds begin the day peeling potatoes 'spud bashing' at the village hall ready for all the smartly suited members of the club and their families. A little later in the morning, the members proudly follows the 'Marsh Gibbon Silver Band' between the two village pubs to the pleasant sound of traditional band music.”
Now in it's 230th year It is still held for it's tradition and is believed to be one of the oldest organisations of this nature in the UK.
A great day is always guaranteed with good food, great ales, marvelous music live in the plough and fairground attractions in the greyhound car park.
I have been a few times and I must say, it's always a great day out!
