Evening Steemsters;
Today I spent lunch at one of the most impressive chinese & dim sum restaurants I've been to in a good long while. While not being totally within walking distance of my innercity residence, it was most definitely worth the trip. Situated in the inner northwest suburb of Eastwood, "A Taste of Shanghai" really does come accross as a humble, unassuming thrifty chinese diner that, candidly speaking, would not draw my attraction on appearance alone. However it was to my utter delight that "A Taste of Shanghai" definitely exceeds all expectations and delivers on a well rounded experience.
Not striving to pander to the "western" take of chinese & dim sum cuisine, A Taste of Shanghai really does pride itself on it's authenticity and dedication to staying in it's lane. While consistently putting out great food, the word has gotten around that this place is the real deal. It is clear that ATOS is a hit when upon walking into the venue the place is absolutely buzzing with a great mix of locals, out-of-towners, tradesmen on lunchbreak and tourists!
Here you'll find each enjoying their own variation of pan-fried, steamed or boiled dumplings with variety of fillings - the most popular being the pork. If the buns and wonton soup aren't your thing you've also got a plethora of full dish & seafood options such as steamed barramundi, Nanjing style salted duck as well as the shredded pork with homemade chilli oil. More or less, I could blindfold you while your order and nothing would go wrong. Along with a great selection of Asian beers and a serve of all-you-can-drink complimentary tea, this little Chinese eatery really does tick every box.
Honestly if this little nook of a Chinese restaurant isn't too far out of your way, you'll really want to give this place a shot.
