Good Gin, Good Memories
On November 11th 2017 I got married to my husband in Anacortes Washington at the Majestic Inn and Spa. One of the gifts we received was this bottle of Uncle Val’s Botanical Gin. The other night we decided to open it and give it a try. It is a very unique gin, very citrusy with a not quite definable citrus fruit taste; it is somewhere between orange, lemon and grapefruit. Over all it is delightful, strongly herbal and easy to drink; this is definitely not a gin to use in a mixed drink.

This was kinda an off the cuff photo since I was not planning on taking a photo until I had made the martini. One lesson I learned taking this photo, well relearned, is to dust your bottles off before you photograph them. The accent lighting did a great job of creating a pool of light for the bottle and the glass. This is a macerated gin, meaning that the botanicals are steeped in the gin like making tea. Macerating infuses a lot more essential oils into the gin so when you shake it with ice, some of the essential oils come out of solution giving the gin a cloudy/pearlescent appearance. In my opinion when you order a gin martini and it comes to you crystal clear, send it back and order a better gin.
