I took these photos while on a tour of Osaka's small bars and eateries in and around the Nipponbashi area in the heart of Osaka. It really was quite special, even after living in Osaka from nearly two decades, I'd not ventured here. I'll be going back though!
I'd met up with the tour part way through and missed the dinner section so my first stop was a cozy 7 seat bar smaller than most rooms in a house! The bar tender served a fine glass of Sake (above). The glass is in a small wooden box (which is also a drinking cup) and filled until it overflows, it makes the first sip a bit tricky but is a beautiful way to ensure you're getting what you paid for! It was delicious!
The second shot comes from a temple that is on the tour route the fleeting embers of the incense mirrored the glow of the sake, and foretold of a great whiskey bar that would be visited later!
If this small taste of the tour appeals to you and you plan on visiting Osaka then you must contact Drink Osaka and get your reservation! I 100% recommend it! Rodney, the owner and guide is very knowledgeable and has put together a wonderful tour of Osaka's nightlife.
Full disclosure: Rodney is my friend, you can mention my name when you book your tour, there no discount or anything but it'd be really cool to be name dropped! :P
