⛵ ⛵ ⛵ ⛵...(Tour of "High Island")...Continued...
[Last time...]
”Ready those tether lines men! Fling them straight an' fling them weel oan mah commain!”
In the distance, the small sloop bounded quickly over the rolling waves of Great Lake Ontario. It’s precious crew huddled down closely out of the way of the cold wind spray and hope was once again flying high for the crew of the mighty Frigate Silverton. [On the Silverton…forecastle…]
Lieutenant Kevmcc stood at the stairwell of the forecastle, his scope held steady on the approaching sloop. Next to him Cockpit Officer Bitcoinman watched as scene unfolded…
“Some nae cut oot fur th' life at brine…” Bitcoinman said in deep thought.
The lieutenant turned towards him for a moment but said nothing…
“Silverton crew is true…Ahh’ve got faith in aw’ o’ ‘em.”
Just then, the deep voice of the captain rang out over the main deck…
“Git ready tae bring 'er in men! Aw’ een oan th' sloop!”
As the tension rose, sailors began to gather on the main deck and as the sloop reached an’ eighth of a mile out, they broke into a Gaelic rowing hymn that echoed far out across the northern waters…
🎶 ”Hiererine, hioenin, him botrao, hainin, hienin, hioenin, him botrao, hainin,
Hiererine, hioenin, hiereriea, hienin, habotria, hioenin, hiereriea, hienin,
hiendo, botriea, hioa, hindi,
hia virlao, hainin,hienin, hioenin,
him botrao, hienin…” 🎵
[On the sloop…]
“They’re singing th' rowin' hymn fur us!” Commander Kerrislravenhill exclaimed in excitement and great emotion.
“Aye, an’ it’s music tae me lugs!👂” Commander Galligan added as he sat up straight and waved a high hand towards the Silverton.
“Imagine a 50 poond leftowre poke o’ carnival kernels an' almost 30 poonds o’ seasoned oil!” Kerrislravenhill said dreamily.
“Ahh’m imaginin’ it!” Galligan replied with a laugh, “Dae ye think ole ‘Peg’ wull hav it in th' galley tonight?! Haha!”
“Probably nae…but Ahh kin dreams cannae I?”
“Aye, ye kin dreams Commander...”
As the two vessels quickly devoured the distance between them, Kerrislravenhill watched as the mainsails of the Silverton came down and only the upper gallants and jibs were left to th’ wind. There would be no dead-stop pick-up on this rendezvous, time was too precious as at any minute Fort Toronto might collect its whits and decide to engage.
Suddenly, Cockpit Mate Pocketechange rolled over in a semi-conscious state and hung one arm over the gunnel…
“Icelain looks loch it woods be an interestin' place tae visit...” he mumbled before falling back into a sluggish unconscious state.
Galligan smiled and Kerrislravenhill giggled, “Ahh wonders what hee’s dreamin'?!”
“Nae tellin'! But he needs a hot cuppae coffee an' a warm bunk! He’ll be alright in th' morn!”
Kerrisl smiled broadly and reached out and patted Pocketechange on the shoulder as she thought back to her first day of battle on the mighty frigate Silverton. It wasn’t easy getting comfortable with that thought.
