Our Ooni gas powered pizza oven has been in winter storage and I felt it’s about time to dig it out as the daily temps are above zero now, though there is still snow on the ground.
I made the dough two days ago in the hopes of having a sunny weekend to make pizza on the patio. Northern hemisphere had other plans…
Summer who? We don’t know her.
We were just leaving to go to the store to pick up toppings when it started to snow. Oh well, not that surprising in April on these latitutes, we’ll make it work.
I don’t feel comfortable using an open gas oven in the kitchen, though isn’t it technically not much different from a gas stove? Anyways, I decided to set up a pizza station on the outer entryway where I can crack open the door a bit. We carries out a tabletop, did the prep in kitchen while Ooni heated up and then set everything up next to the oven for easy access.
Turns out this is the perfect setup for making pizza! I had enough space for everything and I didn’t have to carry the pizza from the kitchen to the patio to be baked which was a pain last summer. You can’t leave to pick up anything from the kitchen while the pizza is in the oven because it literally takes only a few seconds and then you have to turn the pizza, repeat and it’s done. Learned the hard way…
I’m definitely going to keep this setup for all future pizza days, though it might get quite hot in the summer.
