Lavender bushes and a gay waterfall,
Springtime is happy for one and for all.
Under the sunshine in the sweet grass,
Grow pretty flowers, delicate as glass.
And as I sit dreaming by the clear pool,
The birds sing proud as a springtime rule.
As happy days fly quickly past,
Spring is coming to its end, all too fast.

Story Behind the Poem:
I grew up in the country where the seasons played a significant role in our everyday life. Spring was always a raucous event. The sounds and sights surrounded me as I hauled maple sap for hours then received a reward of warm maple syrup to drink like hot chocolate. It always amazes me how spring flowers seem the most delicate - crocuses, trilliums, and daffodils all have thin, easily damaged petals. Young trilliums need 7-10 years before they bloom, and mature trilliums can die if you pick them. I wanted to pay homage to that fragile beauty.
