When you think about poker, you may not necessarily think about food. However, countless number of home poker games involve food. I remember the times of playing a weekly 1/2 NL Holdem cash game once a week, and everyone who came would always be interested in food. Sometimes we would order out, sometimes I would bring some homemade goodies for the group, and sometimes other players would bring munchies.
Even at casinos, poker rooms usually have their own exclusive menu. You've seen it, people place the order, then the waiter/waitress brings out a table, and the person is eating a club sandwich, or Chinese fried rice, while you are waiting for AA. You know you be looking at what they are eating...and who can blame you, poker is a game of hours, and in those hours, there isn't always time to eat.
Humans love to gamble. And humans love to eat. So why not combine the two?!

Today's Starting Hand
10 2 It's time for the Doyle Brunson. Mr. Texas Dolly. Yet another absolute shit hand that has a famous past.
10 2 has no real place in the poker world. I know D.B. won some tourney with it, but he was heads up, and that's really the only time you should maybe consider playing it. Even then, it's suspect at best. None the less, the hand is famous for a reason, it was named after arguably the greatest hold em player in history of the game.
Today's Dish
Queso & Quac - Oh finally I am able to go back to my Texas roots. Life can be shitty as fuck, but if you have a bowl of queso, and guacamole life can be okay. And if you add a frozen margarita, life can be heaven. Every single Mexican restaurant in Texas has guacamole and queso on the menu. Life in the south is simple. Spicy food and alcohol...
Wait, how are Queso & Guac and 'The Doyle Brunson' the same thing?? Let me tell you...
- The Doyle Brunson was made famous by the man nicknamed Texas Dolly and well, i'm from TEXAS, Y'ALL
Recipe
- Avocado
- Tomatoes
- Red Onions
- Sour Cream (secret # 1)
- Parmesan cheese (secret # 2)
- Lime juice
- Fresh black pepper
- Sea salt
- Butter
- Flour
- Milk
- Pepper Jack, Colby, and Cheddar cheeses
- Rotel tomatoes
- Fresh black pepper
- Sea salt
For the guacamole, mash all the ingredients together and serve with chips.
For the queso, place some butter in the pan, allow it to melt. Add some flour and make a light roux by cooking over med heat 2-3 mins. Add milk, stir constantly until thickens, about 4 mins. Add cheese and allow to melt - still mixing. Add the can of rotel with the juices, and finish with pepper, and salt. Serve with chips.

Make sure not to burn the roux.
After the milk has thickened. Remember to stir continuously or it will scorch.
The pepper jack and cheddar make an entrance.
The colby jack makes an entrance.
Ooh the gooey happy sauce potion is coming together.
And now we add a little life to the happy sauce.
Isn't that the most lovely couple you have ever seen?!
