Greetings, dear friends, once again, welcome back to another episode of Daily Eagle News: your screaming squealing talons of truth. Today is Thursday, April 1, 2021, and we celebrate. Mike Wendel Day. This is the yearly occasion where we quit smoking tobacco; check our notes, and consider becoming an organ donor. Michael Wendel passed away on Sunday February 21, 2021, at the age of 63, at his home in the state of Florida. The father of two sons, Michael was born on October 22, 1957, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to Patricia and Horst Wendel. He studied film and business law at BCCC, later moving to New York with his then wife Maria to help run his grandfather's paving business, Wendel Asphalt Paving Corporation. Michael raised and loved the two sons, Edward and Steven. He was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and generosity during his days running the paving business. He is survived by his two sisters, Wendy, and Michelle, and his two sons, Edward and Steven Wendel. A funeral service was held on February 23, 2021, in Boca Raton, Florida.
This documentary is about the subject of Mike Wendel’s activism, his environmental crusade to uncover what was making people sick in his community. That subject was completely omitted in the family obituary printed above. Mike had a hair-brained theory that there were secret government radiation experiments conducted on the local prison population, ack in the early part of the 20th century, which turned out to be unfounded, based on evidence available. However, certain other scandals indeed were uncovered through Mike's efforts, including the mysterious disappearance of a toxic Superfund site -- the giant factory formerly known as Channel Masters of Ellenville Mike was able to gather ample evidence showing that demolition crews buried the debris in the ground, because no trucks were ever seen leaving the site over several years that the demolition took place. Additionally, another fact which is omitted in the documentary is a building inspector who stopped work on the demolition. He was fired by the village of Ellenville, and currently works for the town of New Paltz. Finally, Wendel also called into question the murder conviction of former Department of Environmental Protection, engineer, David Reese, who is currently serving 25 years to life at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville New York. More details of that case are provided below.
Your faithful humble and obedient servant first met Mike Wendel in March of 2017 while chasing down another corruption scandal. A scurrilous and skittish public official had blown a red light to dodge my questions. Giving up my chase, I decided to get a cup of coffee at the local cafe across from the county courthouse, There I noticed an odd character standing on the front steps of the courthouse, with a tripod and making a commotion of himself. So I asked him what his story was all about. As usual, Mike Wendel filmed the encounter. And that video encounter was posted on Facebook but alas, no longer can I find it -- thus omitted from the documentary. This began several years of interaction, where I followed Mike Wendal’s escapades, and as a result after his death, we have put together a compilation of all Mike’s various clips, or at least most of them in one place, together with an explanation, interpretation, and final decree. So there you have it. It's definitely much more than an obituary; life ends abruptly; and these records we leave behind are the only memory available for future generations, to watch and understand who, and what, we once were.
