Wow Discord has absolutely exploded with growth, and it's now an essential tool for building online communities, specifically within the crypto and NFT space.
Discords Insane Growth!
I just want to talk about the insane growth Discord has seen this past year. Everyone here is deep into crypto and probably NFT's too, so no doubt you're in a bunch of Discord servers. What's the max for regular accounts, 100 servers?
We'll you're not alone, crypto has taken over Discord but gaming did it first!
According to https://www.businessofapps.com/ Discord has an active user base of more than 140 million active monthly users and 300 million registered accounts, insane.
The Revenue?
Discord has tried and failed to generate revenue through shops and storefronts but has has found it's way with it's Nitro service which accounts for the bulk of the companies revenue.
In 2021, it was valued at $7 billion, doubling its value in under a year.
An Essential Crypto Community Platform
With multiple chat rooms, threaded conversations, roles, games, voice chat, high def streaming, screen sharing, and recently added Stages, Discord as a platform has absolutely destroyed it's competition in Skype and Team Speak.
If you build it they will come!
Sort of maybe. I've been managing a discord server for a couple years no and have had an opportunity to do it professionally within the NFT and crypto space.
Building a server that will host a community is one thing, but promoting it and bringing in the crowd is another game all together.
I would be happy to share some Community Design strategies and tactics that have worked, but I will save that for future posts.
