Came across an awesome visual representation of the planets largest companies by market cap. Basically there's the US, then there's everyone else.
No other country even comes close to the economic out put of the United States.
I mean I knew they were number one by a wide margin but I think I was caught off guard by the fact that no other nation even comes close, not even China!
The Top 10
I'm sure you're familiar with these top 10 companies, they're on top of the world right. That said I actually have no idea what Saudi Aramco or Tencent does..
- Apple
- Saudi Aramco
- Microsoft
- Alphabet
- Tencent
- Tesla
- Alibaba
- Berkshire Hathaway
3 of these companies are not headquartered in the US, Saudi Aramco, Tencent, and Alibaba.
Saudi Aramco - Out of Saudi Arabia is a Saudi Arabian public petroleum and natural gas company.
Tencent - Is a Chinese multinational technology conglomerate holding company with subsidiaries that market internet related services.
FUN FACT: Facebook has produced 3 of the richest Millennials in the world in Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, and Edwardo Saverin with a combined net worth of apx $129 Billion.
Tech Companies Rule The World
I personally don't believe that you or nor I am actually ruled by any corporation.
That said tech companies are king right now and for the foreseeable future, with 5 of the top 10 global companies by market cap operating in this sector.
I think an argument could be made that Amazon, Tesla, and Alibaba could be added to this group to make 8 our of 10 leaving only a Saudi energy company and a US financials company to round out the list.
Other companies on the rise include those in e-commerce (Paypal), and other tech companies thanks to current semi-conductors shortages (TSMC, ASML Holdings).
Which Sectors Have Recovered From March 2020 Lows?
While March of 2020 saw lows across the board in terms of market capitalization, some of the top companies in the world have managed to climb their way back and outperform their sector index.
Tech leads the way in recovery and the shock of the previous pandemic lows, shaking them off almost like nothing.
Along with Tech, Industrials and Consumer Staples have made a solid return to form. I guess these are the things we just can't live without, we need our tech, and we need industry to feed our demand for consumerism and the staples.
Ultimately we need our phones, computers, and we need to feed and cloth our selves!
In which order, well that's up to you I guess. After all you're not ruled by a tech company right?
Ciao for now,
