Yesterday I participated in a calisthenics and gym competition that turned out to be one of the toughest I've ever faced. The challenge was to complete a circuit with eight very demanding exercises, which left me quite exhausted. However, being surrounded by other competitors and the adrenaline of the competition helped me keep going strong.
The routine included a superset with the following exercises: 50 pull-ups, 100 goblet squats with 50 pounds, 20 devil presses with 10 kilos, 100 lunges with a 10-kilo plate, 25 L-raises, 25 toes-to-bar, 100 push-ups with a 10-kilo plate, and to finish, 100 sumo squats with 50 pounds.
There were seven of us participating in the advanced category, divided into two groups. I was part of the first group with four competitors.
During the competition, it was clear that we were all giving our all to complete the circuit in the shortest time possible. At first, I took the lead, but my pace slowed considerably during the devil presses; even so, I persevered until I managed at least eight repetitions. The lunges were the most challenging, as holding the weight plate high destabilized me, and fatigue worsened my balance.
I completed the L-raises and toes-to-bar quickly and without much difficulty, but the real challenge came with the push-ups with 10 kilos. I started with 20 repetitions and progressed in increments of 20 with all my strength, until I reached the sumo squats. There, I was able to do up to 40 repetitions and then continued progressing in increments of 15 until I completed the circuit.
When I finished, I knew I had achieved the third-best time, completing everything in 38 minutes and 44 seconds. It was a pleasure to participate in this hybrid calisthenics competition, I had a lot of fun and I am very proud to have pushed my limits again.
